This church was erected by the Catholics of Jesselton and Tanjung Aru in honour of Our Lady Star of the Sea. It was solemnly consecrated by the Right Reverend Mgr James Buis, C.B.E, Vicar Apostolic of Jesselton on 25th May 1963.
